Biography

Sen Yoshimura is a saxophonist and composer from Japan.

His musical journey began at the age of six when he first started learning the saxophone. He participated in the Berklee College of Music tie-up special jazz seminar “Hokkaido Groove Camp,” where he earned recognition by winning the Hokkaido Groove Camp award in 2013, becoming its youngest recipient and led to a full scholarship invitation to the seminar in the following year.

 

In 2020, Sen received a full scholarship to study at Berklee College of Music. During his first year at Berklee, he performed in the “Berklee Long Winded 2, A Celebration of Diversity in the Woodwind Department” to represent the Berklee Woodwind Department as a featured alto saxophonist, performing alongside the Edmar Colón Group.

 

In addition, he performed in Berklee’s official YouTube recording video “Two Track” series collaborating with Haitian pianist and composer, Esli Honore and featured as a key performer. The video's success solidified his reputation as a dynamic and versatile saxophonist, leaving a lasting impression on diverse audiences, and has currently amassed over 8.1k views on YouTube.

 

In May 2023, Sen launched his own band and released two singles. He led the production, composition, and arrangement of his debut single "A Year Later," featuring esteemed artists, including Grammy nominated saxophonist Edmar Colón (Terri Lyne Carrington, John Patitucci) and flutist Sarpay Özçağatay (Arturo Sandoval, The 8-Bit Big Band). Soon after, he released his second single "Same Destination" collaborating with multiple Grammy Awarded artists such as Luis Perdomo (Miguel Zenón, Charlie Haden) on piano and Mark Walker (Oregon, Paquito D'Rivera) on drums.

Sen Demonstrated an extraordinary level of musical achievement in one of the most famous woodwind reed and mouthpiece maker Vandoren’s Emerging Artist competition, and was named an Honorable Mention winner among applicants from across the United States.

Currently, he is a member of the “Berklee Global Jazz Institute (BGJI),” a sophisticated institute for professional performer’s education, led by world-famous Grammy awarded pianist and educator Danilo Pérez. In February 2024, he performed in the BGJI Big Band, alongside the featured artist Brian Blade, Danilo Pérez, John Patitucci, David Gilmore, celebrating the 15th years anniversary of the continuous success of the institute.

Sen has also performed with renowned saxophonist Miguel Zenón, showcasing repertoires from the influential contemporary jazz ensemble “SFJAZZ Collective.” Sen acknowledges world-renowned artists such as Edmar Colón, Godwin Louis, Mike Tucker, George Garzone, Miguel Zenón, Tiger Okoshi, Vadim Neselovskyi, and Leo Blanco among his mentors.
